WALK AND LEARNEAC LESSONS

Walk and Learn – The walking classes

100% live English - 100% real experience

The walking lessons programme is an extraordinarily efficient language learning method which was elaborated based on several years of research and development. The basic point of the method is that students from all parts of the world form international teams and solve situative tasks in real life settings and not in the classroom! You will acquire language skills in the most natural way, almost without noticing it!
We do not only teach theory, but you will use your English right on site where you need it.  We will take you where you can immediately put your knowledge into practice. We will go to the post office, the beach, the parks, the museums, the zoo, the tourist information centres, the employment offices, the library, the restaurant, the doctor, the café, the discotheque, everywhere! In the morning your teacher gives the tasks of the group for the day, the sites that you will visit and the words and expressions that will help you to solve your tasks. Then the team and the teacher start off to discover the new place and the new topic. Every student has to use the given words and expressions actively.
The teacher provides constant guidance and surveillance.
At the end of the day the learners and their teacher summarise everithing together.
Photos will be taken during all the walking lessons to serve as memories and
’evoking cards’ of the language acquisition process.

This method might be more efficient for you than most classroom-based traditional methods. Why?

The key is motivation!

What will motivate you?

- new situations and new places every day
- constant use of the target language
- team spirit, helping each other, constant guidance of the
  teachers and leaders
- less passive resistance, motivating ambience
- new challenges constantly, constant attention
- higher pulse, better concentration
- skill development tailored to individual needs and abilities
- repetition at least three times a day
- a feeling of achievement and success
- pictures for evoking knowledge

You will also have classroom lessons for the purpose of complementing the walk and learn lessons, as there are topics which are more suitable for classroom teaching. We would like to have the lesson about the Universe and the other planets on Mars…but you will have to wait a bit for that… So we will have to spend some time in the classroom as well, but during the midnight beach party you will be able to talk about your knowledge when you look at the sky!

Sample lesson

A day in the life of a WL group at elementary level
In the morning the group has breakfast together, then they receive the ’morning briefing’, so they get the tasks for the day. They learn the necessary words and expressions together with the teacher. They act out some situations before setting off. Then they get out into real life!

They head for the souvenir shop to buy postcards. After that they go to the seaside to write the postcards together with the help of the guildlines and instructions of the teacher (this way students can practice letter writing). Then they visit the post office, but the teacher does not know the way there, so students have to ask for directions and find their way (students practise asking for directions). At the post students have to fill in forms and different answer sheets. They have to receive information about the costs and payments, payment methods and different postal services (they have to use their communication skills). Of course, everybody sends the postcards for the relatives, girlfriends, boyfriends and other loved ones. On the way home the teacher gets lost again, so students have to ask for directions.

At the end of the lessons there is a follow-up of the process and the
group summarises the elements. The teacher evaluates the work
of the group, gives appropriate feedback and draws the students’
attention to their mistakes. The answer sheets and the photos of
the WL lessons help students organize their revision of the subject
matter.

Lunch together, then relaxing. Afternoon programme.
Taking part in the chosen optional programmes or activities.
